Helping Displaced Pets From Hurricane Harvey

HarveyDue to Hurricane Harvey, many areas in Texas received more than 40 inches of rain causing catastrophic flooding. Harvey is the wettest tropical cyclone on record in the contiguous United States and the resulting floods have displaced more than 30,000 people and prompted more than 17,000 rescues. Thousands of pets have also been displaced and are in need of immediate help!

There are many ways to help these large numbers of displaced pets no matter where you are in the country or even the world. Countless pets are in desperate need of immediate fostering while their owners are searched for, or while their owners are displaced out of their homes. Please consider opening your home to an animal in need, you will literally save a life and the love and appreciation they will show you will warm your heart forever.

These rescue pets are also in need of medical attention and supplies. We know not everyone is able to foster or adopt, but there are many other ways to help!

Below are some wonderful organizations that are in direct line of helping to house and care for these countless animals in need, some Texas-based organizations, and some local. All organizations are in great need of donations, both monetary or donations of goods and supplies. Please consider doing anything you can to help, no matter how small. Every bit gives an animal a chance at healing and happiness!

Austin Pets Alive has been a tremendous help and provider of resources for finding immediate fosters in the general area, and they are always accepting monetary donations to contribute to the care these animals need.

Best Friends Animal Society has been making a wonderful effort to help with these displaced pets! Not only are they directly taking in pets in need and organizing donation drives, but they are also organizing volunteers to assist in delivering emergency supplies and transporting animals.

SPCA of Texas  is also housing animals directly, taking monetary donations as well as donated supplies, and assisting in transporting animals. If you’re looking to help in a direct way, Best Friends or SPCA of Texas are great resources!

Locally, PAWS  in Lynnwood has directly taken in some displaced animals that will be available for foster and adoption, as well as Seattle Humane. If you can foster or adopt, please consider saving the life of a Harvey pet. They will also accept donations to help care for the animals while they are waiting to find a foster home and/or a new forever home.

Emerald City Pet Rescue extends our deepest sympathies for all of the people and pets affected by Harvey. Please help if you can, Love Can Save Lives!
