adopt-me Meet Dragon! This handsome three-year-old Holland Lop boy is excited to start the search for his forever home in the Seattle area. Dragon is not only as cute as they come in the looks department – he is also one of the friendliest, most social bunnies we have ever met!

While Dragon’s previous family could no longer keep him due to allergies, they could not say better things about his personality. In addition to being potty trained, Dragon is described as being an outgoing, affectionate, playful fellow who loves attention from humans! The only things Dragon loves more than toys and being cuddled are yummy treats like kale, parsley, and cilantro, which makes him easy to please. Fans of fluffy, friendly bunnies will surely fall in love with Dragon just like we have!

Dragon is fully vetted, neutered and microchipped. Please call 206-557-4661 for more information on Dragon!

ECPR’s Wonderful, Adoptable Kitties!

We are just so excited about our merge with Kitty Harbor, and we can’t wait to open Emerald City Kitty Harbor!

While the Kitty Harbor facility is being renovated, we have some WONDERFUL kitties here at our main facility on 1st and Hanford in Sodo waiting to find loving homes!

b1How cute is Blackberry??! Blackberry spent the first 13 years of her life in a warm home, though found her way to our rescue when her owner could no longer look after her. This lively, active girl loves to play with toys when she’s not stretching out near a window and enjoying the sunshine! Blackberry used to live with other cats. yet would prefer to be the only cat in her future forever home. She loves to receive affectionate attention without any other competition. While she starts out shy, it isn’t long before she’ll be leaning into your hand while you stroke her fuzzy cheeks – but you’ll know you’ve sealed the deal with her when she rolls onto her back to offer her belly up for rubs! A girl of few words, Blackberry is extremely sweet and prefers the mellow life in her golden years, so a home with people over 16 years old is on her wish list. In exchange for a quiet, loving, forever home, Blackberry will give you companionship and devotion for years to come…!

h Little Harley is such a charmer! At 6 months old, Harley is barely out of babyhood and is excited to get the search underway for his new forever home. This vet staff favorite gets along well with other cats and dogs, so he would do well with other furry friends in the home. Harley loves to play and loves attention so a person who loves to play hard or has plenty of time to spare is ideal for him. Although he is affectionate, Harley isn’t the cuddliest little guy in the world and is likely to wiggle free so that he can get started on his next adventure! Fans of spunky, friendly little guys who come dressed in their own formal wear (he is a “tuxedo” breed after all) are sure to be big fans of Harley!

Meet Keva and Sativa, two of our new rescue arrivals! Their devoted mama has fallen on hard times and is trying to secure a forever home for her two girls. This bonded pair of 7 year-olds has been through quite a lot of change in the last several months and lean on each other for comfort. What Keva and Sativa want more than anything is safety and stability so they can begin their new lives together. Shy and scared at first meeting, these kitties would prefer a quiet home without any dogs or young children, but welcome adults who can show them the patience they need to come out of their shells. Once they are comfortable with you, these girls love receiving affection, attention, and being brushed while sitting on your lap! Emerald City Pet Rescue is a firm believer in second chances, and we can’t think of a pair more deserving than Keva and Sativa!

mMeet Maddie, one of our new rescue arrivals! This sweet, beautiful little domestic short hair girl is looking forward to finding her forever home in the Seattle area. Maddie is a classic wallflower, just like the pretty girl at school waiting on the sidelines for you to ask her to dance. Once you take a chance on her with a smooth, patient, gentle approach, you will find her apprehension melting away to reveal a sweet, affectionate side. Not one for playing so much as snuggling, Maddie does fine with other respectful cats, but would prefer a home with kids 12 and up because she isn’t such a fan of excitement or adventure. If a quiet, easygoing, and lovable is what you’re looking for all wrapped up in a petite package that loves to purr, look no further than Maddie!

mi Meet Minou! This tiny little 3-month-old girl is looking for her forever home in the Seattle area. Petite and sweet Minou may be small in stature but she is big in heart, with lots of love to share for just the right person (or people)! While a lot of kittens are courageous, risk-taking little daredevils, Minou is very mature for her age and is a bit more cautious with new people and situations. One of Minou’s favorite things to do is to play with other kittens, which is a great way of helping to build Minou’s confidence (and also to help burn that kitten energy). Minou would love most to find a home where she won’t be lonely and by herself too much, so another kitty companion or someone who is home frequently would be ideal for her (or why not both?). If shy, sweet and beautiful are what you’re seeking in a kitten, Miss Minou may be your match!

ALL of our adoptable kitties are fully vetted, spayed / neutered, and microchipped. If you’d like to meet any of these fuzzy felines, give us a call at 206 557 4661!

Emerald City Pet Rescue’s Cats Have a New Facility!

It’s been an adventurous road, but here we all are, rolling toward the end of 2016 into a brand new year! It’s amazing to look back on how far Emerald City Pet Rescue has come since first opening our doors as a nonprofit in 2013. ECPR found its humble beginnings with our dedicated founder, Vivian Goldbloom, in a small room in the back of VCA West Seattle. We opened our first independent facility in SoDo on 1st Ave South and Hanford Street in the summer of 2014, and as each month goes by, we find ourselves fortunate enough to have the privilege of saving more pets.

We are very grateful for the positive support we have received from people all over the Seattle area. Orijen/Acana has recently begun providing us with an amazing monthly food donation to assist in keeping our cats’ bellies full and healthy. As we are now taking in more and more kitties, such a generous donation from a high-quality pet food brand has been so helpful! This brand is also sold at our retail store attached to our facility on 1st Ave South, and all proceeds go directly back into the rescue. If you’re looking for high-quality pet food and supplies at affordable prices, come in and check out our merchandise! Our retail employees are very knowledgeable regarding all of our products and will be happy to assist you in finding the right food and supplies for your pet’s individual needs.

Getting back to the kitties, we are thrilled about the merger and expansions Emerald City Pet Rescue is rolling out in 2017. Kitty Harbor, just off the West Seattle bridge and down the street from Luna Park Cafe, is currently closed for renovations, yet will re-open early next year as Emerald City Kitty Harbor, our very own cat-specific adoption location! Our facility on 1st Ave South in SoDo will then be our dog-specific adoption location. Emerald City Kitty Harbor will then be open 7 days a week, all year round! The kitties will even have an all-season “catio” — they are purrfectly excited!

In addition to Kitty Harbor, we recently opened Emerald Kitty Café at our Kitty Harbor location! Serving delicious Stumptown Coffee Roasters brews and espresso, we are currently open Saturdays and Sundays from 7AM until 4PM. Stop on by and warm up with a delicious latte while helping to support a noble cause. Soon, you will have the added bonus of being able to view adorable adoptable cats and kitties romping around behind viewing windows while sipping your coffee!

Emerald Kitty Café is also able to take any donations you may have, monetary or supplies, for our Emerald City Pet Rescue kitties.

With the addition of Emerald City Kitty Harbor plus another new facility in SoDo on South Idaho Street — which will house our very own clinic and provide more space for larger dogs as well as critters like bunnies, hamsters, chinchillas and more — 2017 is full of possibilities! We can’t wait to share more details with you as we continue to grow, allowing us to give more and more rescue pets a second chance to find the happy endings they truly deserve.

The Wheelies Whirl Toward Adventure

Right now at Emerald City Pet Rescue, we have three dogs with sweet sets of wheels. These dogs are:

Chewey the charmer!….

…Mommas the love bug!….

20161227_121214

…and Walter the sweet mischief maker!

20161227_120946

Chewey, Mommas and Walter all suffered injuries prior to arriving to ECPR which left their back legs paralyzed. At one point in their life, they could frolic and play the way most dogs do, so the loss of their mobility must have been a shock and heartache for them. But these three little wheelies are resilient, strong and full of joy despite their injuries. They don’t let their lack of normal mobility get in their way of exploring the world. Just yesterday, the three buddies went on a walk together. They had the grandest time!

20161227_120817

Although Chewey may not be able to mark the way most dogs do (our wheelie dogs need help with bladder expressions), Chewey is still quite interested in smelling trees. He is probably thinking, “Someday, when I learn to walk again, I’ll come back to this very spot and mark this tree as mine!”

20161227_121210

Chewey’s dream is not all that farfetched. Mommas, Chewey and Walter all get daily physical therapy. Before Walter arrived at the ECPR facility, the vet clinic he stayed with helped him make amazing progress with walking. He now takes steps on his own and is well on his way to walking again. Chewey has been getting physical therapy since arriving and he has also made impressive progress. He also has taken steps on his own and is learning to walk again! Mommas hasn’t had quite the same success with walking. She still gets daily physical therapy which her doctor says is a help to her regardless if she learns to walk again because it will help her muscles not atrophy. Mommas may not be achieving the same success with walking, but she has lots of success with being lovable and wonderful.

During their walk, the three pals ran into another pal! Fellow ECPR dog Echo who was on his own walk. The friends converged and the sniffing and tail wagging commenced!

After Chewey, Mommas and Walter’s meeting with Echo, more excitement rolled their way! The three wheeled friends politely stepped aside as another set of wheels passed by. They looked at the strange contraption curiously, comparing their own set of wheels to that of the smiling stranger’s.

The air was crisp but the sun was shining for their walk. The three dogs loved the feel of the sun warming their fur. It gave them each an extra jaunty skip to their step.

Mommas and Chewey have been at the rescue longer than Walter. Mommas and Chewey immediately gravitated toward each other and are great friends. They love to share a pillow or a sunspot in the playroom. They have their own cool kid clique that few can penetrate. But Walter, with his sweet, goofy joy, is winning over the two friends and fitting right into their crew.

It is more difficult for special needs dogs to find their forever home. But all three of these dogs are so lovable and so inspiring. They have wonderful and unique personalities. The ECPR crew has no doubt they will charm their way into a forever home soon. Right now they are wheeling their way toward adventures such as sunny day walks. But their greatest adventure has yet to come…the adventure of forever in their forever home!

#WhyNotMePets Features Our Soi Dogs!

soidogs

Earlier this year, Emerald City Pet Rescue ventured all the way to Thailand to pick up five dogs rescued from the streets by Soi Dogs. They have been hanging out in the Seattle area, and all except for one are still searching for their forever homes!

Despite being street dogs, all of these pups are incredibly sweet with people. They are very intelligent, eager to learn, and although they will need experienced and attentive adopters, they will make such wonderful companions!

The last Thailand pup to arrive in Seattle, Bubbles, has already found her forever home but there are still four waiting to meet you!

Lincoln is a sweet, well-socialized fella, who makes the funniest noises when he’s trying o communicate with you. Lincoln is very treat motivated and learns quickly, and is very good at communicating with other dogs, though he can be impatient with them from time to time, so Lincoln would prefer a home with either senior or mellow dogs (or, ideally, he could be the only dog in the home and hold the spotlight all on his own).

Nancy is a very cuddly, sweet, smart dog that gets along with all kinds of humans. She loves her doggy pals, though it can take some time to warm up at first (but, Nancy says “no cats, please and thank you”). Nancy is treat motivated, and is quick to learn with positive reinforcement. She loves to go hiking and romp outdoors, so an active family would be a wonderful fit for her! Nancy is currently with a foster family and has a doggy foster-sibling, and she is doing great acclimating to a home environment!

Thelma is goofy and sweet, and while she gets along well with a lot of dogs, she would thrive in a home with individualized attention where required training with an experienced adopter would help her to grow in her obedience, manners, and trust (particularly with food guarding, her biggest area for improvement). Because she can be vocal and likes to bolt, a house with a fenced yard is the name of the game for Thelma – so no apartments or condos, please. Thelma is the best kind of challenge there is, the one that will reward you with endless kisses!

And now for my personal favorite (the dog that I would adopt in a heartbeat if I had the right kind of environment!) … SNOWFLAKE! Cute, independent Snowflake likes to be cuddled and would love to be a family’s one-and-only until she feels safe and secure. Great on walks and great with handling, Snowflake would likely benefit from crate training to keep her safe from harm when left at home alone. Because of her smarts, Snowflake can be precocious, so she demands a job and / or lots of physical and mental activity to keep her from being destructive (toys and chewy treats would help). Like her Soi Dog mates, Snowflake can be vocal and could escape if given the chance, so a house with a fenced-in yard is a must for her safety (no apartments or condos, please). This little girl is the smartest, most mischievous little pooch I’ve ever met and she will make a wonderful companion for someone that can outsmart her smarts and can keep up with her energy level!

These dogs are in luck – PAWSITIVE ALLIANCE has partnered with Q13Fox to spotlight these wonderful dogs, and they recently had their television debut! Check them out in full action on the news!
