November Pets of the Month

We have many wonderful pets available for adoption here at Emerald City Pet Rescue! We have large, active dogs eager to find families to take them on lots of hikes and runs, we have small, senior dogs looking for a couch to snuggle up on, we have mischevious kittens, and older, refined cats for the more mellow household. We even have bunnies, and sometimes guinea pigs for the small pet enthusiasts!

Sometimes, some of these wonderful pets end up staying with us for a while as we work toward finding their families, and they need a little extra boost out here in the digital world. Each month, we pick a special dog, cat, and critter (if they are available for adoption at the time) to highlight as our Pets of the Month! If you are not in a position to adopt or foster, we encourage you to share these pets with your friends and family. You never know when the right match will find them!

Geoffrey.jpgMeet Geoffrey! Six-year-old Geoffrey, a Shephard/Lab mix,  is a ball-fetching, people-cuddling boy who loves treats so much he’ll even sit for them on command. Good with dogs and people who love tossing toys and outdoor adventures, Geoffrey would benefit from a family that likes to play as much as he does. If your idea of a perfect day is a romp in the park and a snuggle on the sofa, your perfect dog may be Geoffrey!

Geoffrey is good with other pups and dog-savvy older kids but needs a cat-free and critter-free home. Geoffrey is fully vetted and microchipped.

Please call 206-557-4661 for more information on Geoffrey!

Tiki.jpgWe’re in love with Tiki! She’s an eight-year-old Siamese (if you please!) who will quickly steal your heart! One look into Tiki’s big blue eyes and you can tell she has seen many things in her life! This sweet and wise lady is very gentle and always up for human love. It’s not uncommon to see staff and volunteers ooing and ahhing over Tiki while she soaks up the attention. Tiki enjoys roaming around our cat room and seeks out bits of sunshine to warm her fur. If you’re looking for a couch companion to cuddle and adore, then Tiki may be your gal!

Tiki is microchipped and fully vetted.

Some of our felines are offsite or in foster, so if you are interested in meeting them, please call Emerald City Pet Rescue at 206-557-4661.

Begin Again with Finnegan!

D11-07.jpgAs I walked into the office this morning, I was greeted by a giant fluff-ball with a wet nose and a willing kiss. Meet “Mister Personality,” AKA Finnegan! This amazing seven-year-old Border Collie mix is big, fluffy, and EXTREMELY snuggly! He may or may not be the guy frequently chosen to hang out in the office with our staff on a daily basis… (Who are we kidding, he is always hanging out in the office because everyone loves him!)

In addition to his thick coat of super-soft fur, this guy is a genius when it comes to learning commands! He is always eager to show off his impeccable skills with “sit”, “down”, and “shake” and he’s ready and willing to learn more.

Finnegan will never turn down a brushing session. He loves outdoor adventures, and although he can be dog-selective, he has yet to meet a human that he doesn’t adore! He prefers to be the star of the show as the only pet in his new home, but this guy loves so much and so endlessly that he’s all you’ll ever need! If you’re looking for a true charmer who can’t wait to spend life faithfully at your side, Finnegan is definitely your go-to guy!

Yogi Berra Wants To Play a LOT of Fetch!

Y3 2.jpgAll of the animals here at Emerald City Pet Rescue are special, but Yogi Berra has really impressed us all. This sweet boy came to us with extreme anxiety, allergies, and a lot of fear. Being in a busy environment with a lot of other rescue dogs helps a lot of dogs come out of their shell, but the environment wasn’t ideal for Yogi so one of our amazing Animal Care Specialists took him home to foster. It was there in foster that Yogi really blossomed! He settled into the routine at his foster home, got along with the other dogs there, and with the added benefit of a stable home-environment, Yogi learned to trust and be brave. We were all so excited when he recently reached enough confidence to be ready for adoption!Y2 2.jpg

We don’t just rescue animals here at ECPR; we give them our love and complete devotion. It can be heartbreaking when an animal comes to us fearful and unsure, but the resiliency of animals to overcome their pasts always continues to amaze us. Yogi came to us crying, and now he greets us with a wag in his tail and his goofy tongue hanging out of his mouth! Special thanks to miracle worker Julie who devoted herself to him so patiently in foster. Because of her, Yogi now sees humans as safe, loving, and treat-giving!

Yogi is a smart guy who excels at learning commands. Not only has he mastered “sit” and “down”, but he also knows “give paw” and “ball!” Did we mention how much Yogi LOVES his ball?! REALLY loves it. Carries it around in his mouth like it’s his baby. It’s the cutest thing ever!

Although Yogi has come a very long way, he will need a forever home that can continue to be patient with him and provide him with ongoing positive-based training. He would thrive best in a cat-free, child-free home. Although he gets along with other dogs, he doesn’t like every dog so a home with other dogs will be considered on a case-by-case basis. If you’re a compassionate person who can’t resist a cute, goofy face, big clumsy dog hugs, and endless games of fetch, Yogi may be the guy you’ve been looking for!

If you’d like to meet Yogi and you live in or near the Seattle area, give us a call at 206-557-4661

This Husky Will Capture Your Heart!

A1 2.jpgOh my goodness, have you ever seen a more handsome smile in your life? This adorable grin belongs to Alaska, a nine-month-old Husky who is searching for a forever home in the Seattle area.

Fall is in full swing, cold weather is upon us, and Alaska doesn’t mind at all! Like most young Huskies, this guy has a lot of energy. He would be a fantastic running partner or hiking side-kick! There’s something about his enigmatic blue eyes that really make a person stop in their tracks. Intelligent and boisterous, he has mastered commands like ‘sit’ and ‘down’ and he’s very excited to learn more. We’re not kidding – he LOVES to learn! When he knows that he’s done a good job, he uses his voice to express how proud of himself he truly is. In fact, he loves to speak — we’re semi-convinced that he thinks he can carry on a full conversation with humans! Even if we can’t understand what every vocalization means, his face and eyes also speak volumes to help guide us.

What coA3 2.jpgmes to mind when someone says the words dream home? Alaska asks for a home with a fully-fenced yard so he can play LOTS of Fetch, a home with adults only (he loves people, but boy, does he have a lot of boisterous energy!), no cats, but size-and energy appropriate dogs are aye-okay with him. He asks for lots of play, lots of cuddles, and lots of brain games. In return, he will give you loyalty, love, and countless looks of pure adoration!

Are you interested in inviting Alaska to be a part of your family? Give Emerald City Pet Rescue a call at 206-557-4661.

October Dog of the Month – TESLA!

TeslaOffsite4.jpgGazing off into the beautiful Seattle sky… that’s one of the things that Tesla loves to do!

We adore all of our rescue pets but sometimes the special ones wrap themselves around our hearts in unique, unforgettable ways.

Tesla, our October DOG OF THE MONTH, is a nine-month-old Boxer mix with a sweet-as-pie disposition who wants nothing more in this world than to love and be loved. Well, maybe she wants a FEW more things — treats, outdoor areas to play in, lots of things to sniff, and endless adventures!

Tesla has one slight challenge, she is incontinent. That might sound scary at first but she is a pro at wearing diapers when needed. If she could speak out loud to potential adopters, she would say, “I’m sorry, I can’t help it! But I’m a normal dog in every other way and I’m very fun and extremely loving! I’ve been watching my friends find homes and I can’t wait to cuddle up in a forever home of my own.” Tesla is fine with cats, great with humans of all ages (though we recommend children to be at least six years of age as she is playful and might knock over a small toddler on accident), and although she can be dog selective, she has made some great doggy-friends here at the rescue.

If you have an active lifestyle and you’re looking to share your life with an intelligent, active, loyal-forever best pal, Tesla might be your gal! If you have questions about her incontinence, we’d love to chat with you about it and give you more information on how we manage it here at the rescue. Don’t hesitate to give us a call at 206-557-4661. Tesla is waiting for you!

Aviva’s TV Debut!

Three-year-old Terrier mix, Aviva, is the life of the party! This girl loves to be loved, and she can’t wait to find a forever home in the Seattle area. Aviva can thrive in an apartment, condo, or house, as long as she has a lot of human attention. She loves to go-go-go on outdoor adventures and she’s excellent at making new friends. Aviva would do best in a cat-free home with dog-savvy kids 10+. She loves to wiggle!

This sweet lady recently got her fifteen minutes of fame by starring as a #WhyNotMePet on Q13Fox! Special thanks also goes to Pawsitive Alliance and Dirtie Dog Photography for featuring this amazing lady. Check out Aviva on the news HERE!

Rusty Is Cured!

Rusty1Rusty is one special dog! He came to us suffering from distemper. Despite the difficult diagnosis, ECPR was committed to doing everything we could to try and get him well. Read about the long journey he has taken with his foster mom here.

Recently, Rusty had his monthly testing done, and the results we have all been hoping and waiting for – a viral load of 0, finally happened! Rusty is officially cured of distemper and he is ready to move on with his life!

Rusty spent a lot of time in isolation while he was on the mend, and yet when it was finally safe for him to come out, he couldn’t have been happier and bouncier! There’s always the worry after a dog spends so much time in isolation that they will be frightened of new people and new environments, but this rock star had a wagging tail and a cheery disposition ready for anyone who was eager to meet him. There is nothing more heartwarming than seeing pure happiness and joy on his sweet face, and knowing that all of the worry, time, and dedication during his road to recovery was worth every single second.

A huge shout-out and thank you goes to his dedicated foster mom, Julie, who has seen him through every scary moment, shown him immeasurable amounts of love and had an endless amount of patience because she truly believed in him with every fiber of her being. Rusty pulled through because he knows we all care about him. Love Can Save Lives.

Today, Rusty made his way to ECPR’s clinic so he can receive his neuter and get prepared for adoption! Whoever ends up taking this guy home will get a dog with an INCREDIBLE heart and a tremendous will to live and to enjoy life. He deserves all of the love we can give him. Keep an eye on our social media and website: www.emeraldcitypetrescue.org to stay up to date on when Rusty becomes officially available for adoption!
