Sweet Rennie is Ill – Needs TLC Fospice Care!

Please ..will you be my Fospiceperson?.jpg

SEEKING AN EXTRA SPECIAL PERSON WITH A HEART THE SIZE OF TEXAS – Is there anyone out there that can give me the FOSPICE care I truly deserve??

My name is Rennie, and I have been through a lot.
I lived my first 4 years outside with little human contact or attention. I never saw a toy or got to play with anyone.
After being fostered and going through training, I learned how to trust humans. I learned how to love treats and affection. I was excited to find a forever home. I dreamed of years of adventure and companionship.
Then the humans found out I am sick. They told me that I have terminal cancer. They want to find a warm, loving home for me to spend the rest of my days in. They told me they believe it will happen because they know how much I deserve it, after everything I’ve been through.
So that’s me. Rennie. I’d love to share a lifetime with you, but instead, I’ll share my heart and gratitude as long as I am here. As they say, “It only takes a moment to be loved a whole life long.” Thank you. Love, Rennie
Please call 206-557-4661 for more information on how to provide a fospice home for Rennie!

ECPR’s Clinic Staff Works Wonders With An Injured Dog

At Emerald City Pet Rescue, we are blessed with an amazing staff that all work together with passion, commitment, and unconditional love for our rescue animals. As we continue to expand at a fast pace so we can help more pets in need, we have had the good fortune to be able to bring a wonderful veterinary team on board. In just the short time that we have had our in-house clinic, the team has already come across triumphs, challenges, and even some heartbreak.
Today, we’d love to share a wonderful story about an incredible little dog with more heart and spirit than we can possibly imagine, and everything our veterinary team has done, and continues to do, in order to support this pup through her rough time. Their efforts are creative and compassionate, and we are proud and blessed to have them on board as an integral part of our rescue effort.
Little Gingersnap was found by a good Samaritan by the side of the road in California on June 17, 2017, and taken to Marysville Veterinary Hospital. Because of her extensive injuries, she was quickly transferred to a 24-hour speciality hospital, Valley Oak VCA in Chico.
Gingersnap had been hit by a car and her injuries were found to be quite severe. This poor, sweet girl had extensive amounts of skin torn off of her paws and both hind legs because the car that hit her dragged her across the pavement. So much skin was missing that her bones, tendons, and muscles were all exposed. Wounds that extensive can be quite painful and the road to healing from them comes with the risk of infection. Healing requires a LOT of patience from the dog while the wounds are cleaned, sterilised, and re-bandaged daily. I can’t imagine how painful that must be for her!

***TRIGGER WARNING, please be advised that these photos linked below are of Gingersnap’s initial leg injuries and they are very graphic in nature, click at your own risk!

Thanks to our amazing veterinary team, Gingersnap did not need to have skin grafts to help heal her wounds. Instead, they decided on the innovative choice to use Manuka honey to keep her safe through her healing process. Manuka honey has been found to destroy bacteria that could otherwise infect open wounds. It also has bioactivities that help to boost the immune response, which helps new tissue grow and repair wounds. It also suppresses inflammation. How incredible is that!? Nature is its own miracle!
If that injury wasn’t bad enough, Gingersnap was also found to have a fractured bone in her hind foot, and the scariest part of all – she was pregnant. She was instantly put on pain relief medications, antibiotics, and fluids to help ease her suffering and keep her calm. An ultrasound was performed to check on the state of the puppies, and by the grace of nature; the pups had strong heartbeats and seemed okay! Amazing!
But, Gingersnap’s mammary glands were bruised, and one had to be removed. There were still some tough, scary decisions for the vets to make. Should they perform a c-section and deliver the pups immediately, or should they wait until they were born naturally in order to fix Gingersnap’s wounds? They decided to wait. Fortunately, they didn’t have to wait long!
Gingersnap1

Gingersnap’s first puppy was delivered June 20th at 9:30 PM. Despite all of her injuries, she managed to then give birth to 4 healthy puppies who immediately began to nurse on her already wounded mammary glands. The poor girl had to undergo surgery to remove the severely damaged glands, but she was determined to use the ones she had left to continue nursing her pups. There was a concern at first that her puppies may have to be human-raised and bottle fed, but to everyone’s surprise, Gingersnap was determined to care for her puppies no matter what. One of our dedicated techs, Destiny, took Gingersnap home for a long weekend to monitor her progress and make sure she able to care for her pups.
Most dogs need to undergo anaesthesia to have wounds as extensive as hers cleaned and dressed daily, but Gingersnap wags her tail and patiently allows her wounds to be cleaned and re-dressed; a perfect little angel. Our staff began to dress her wounds with “designer bandages” with bright colors and fun designs, and she doesn’t even need a cone because she doesn’t try to chew on them at all, despite the itching and burning of her healing skin underneath.

Gingersnap’s legs have healed up and the wounds are now closed. She has some scarring on her belly where some of her mammaries were removed. Her puppies are healthy, happy, and doing very well.
Gingersnap3A dog like Gingersnap is a true treasure, a walking, talking reminder of why we are all a part of this rescue. The courage, heart, and trust she has shown has blown us all away and touched us deeply in a way that none of us will ever forget. Every day she amazes us, every moment her kind eyes and wagging tail brings a smile to our faces. She will make the most wonderful pet once her puppies are grown and she is healed enough to be available for adoption, and the fact that her happy ending is at least within sight is such a rare miracle considering the condition she was found in.
Our veterinary staff pulled through for this dog by not only being creative and innovative on how to best heal her wounds, but the dedication, kindness, and love they have shown her is a level of commitment and compassion that we are beyond honored to have here at the rescue. They deserve credit for pulling together so quickly and giving Gingersnap the best chance possible to heal and succeed.
Gingersnap is a great example of why we do what we do. With compassion and dedication, our slogan reigns true; Love Can Save Lives!

Bulldogs are Beautiful Day!

Hello everyone – Happy Bulldogs are Beautiful Day!
We LOVE our bullies here at Emerald City Pet Rescue, and we have some amazing bulldogs and bulldog mixes available for adoption right here in Seattle!

Adopt Marco Have you met Marco yet? This 2 year-old Pit Bull mix boy is sweet, cuddly, and “Terrier brained” (i.e. short attention span).

A great walker, this adorable little guy is very protective of his food and treats, so don’t plan on sharing with him until you’ve helped him refine his manners through training which would be a great benefit to him.

Marco would love a home with an adopter who is experienced with his breed, and needs to be the only animal in the home. However, we are sure Marco has more than enough companionship, affection, and love to fill any home to capacity! What a great guy!!

Adopt Lois SUPERHERO and SUPERCUTE, have you met Lois Lane? She is a 3 year old American Bulldog looking for a very special forever home.

This very sweet, smiley, boisterous gal loves to play and throw her weight around, so must go to a household with no small children (as she may knock them right on over in a fit of joy!) or dogs smaller than ~40 lbs. She is a LOVER though, and she gets so excited to see you that her entire body wiggles like crazy!

Lois is looking for an adopter who is willing to continue her manners training and to work on her leash walking skills. Her dream home would be fairly active and up for fun and games (though Lois also loves to cuddle and lounge around!) with experienced adopters of larger breed dogs. Lois wouldn’t mind another well-behaved, large canine sibling to hang out with either. Lois would like a home with no cats, critters or small dogs. Lois is a staff favorite and deserves the best home…is it yours?

BULLDOGS ARE BEAUTIFUL Meet Rennie! This handsome 6 year old Terrier mix came to us with a heartbreaking story, having been dumped in a California shelter where he was so scared that he rapidly lost weight due to stress and fear. Since then, Rennie has come such a long way, in part due to the help from various rescue groups and fosters who would not give up on him! However, Rennie does seem a bit stressed in the rescue environment and he could REALLY use a foster home or a forever family to help him rebuild his confidence and remember how wonderful it is to be loved by humans again – and he will love you tenfold in return!

Agile, playful and affectionate, Rennie is a big fan of walks and edible chew toys. He would make a great companion for someone with an active lifestyle. Though Rennie is not fond of crating or kenneling, he is great with other large dogs his size that can give him clear social cues, as he is still learning the ropes. Because Rennie is extremely curious and active, a fully fenced and completely secure yard is required for his safety.

Are any of these WONDERFUL bulldogs pulling on your heartstrings? Give us a call at 206 557 4661 to find out more about adoption!

Help Rennie Find a Home!

pitty-2Meet one of our most handsome fellas around, Rennie!

This handsome 6 year old Terrier mix boy is eager to start the search for his forever home in the Seattle area. Rennie came to us with a heartbreaking story, having been dumped in a California shelter where he was so scared that he rapidly lost weight due to stress and fear.

Rennie is as sweet as they come. Agile, playful, and affectionate, Rennie is a big fan of walks and edible chew toys. He would make a great companion for someone with an active lifestyle! Thought Rennie is not fond of crating or kenneling, he is great with other large dogs his size that can give him clear social cues, as he is still learning the ropes. Because Rennie is extremely curious and active, a fully fenced yard is required for his safety.

Rennie_PF1Although Rennie has come such a long way, in part due to the help from various rescue groups and fosters who would not give up on him, the hustle and bustle of our rescue facility is causing Rennie to feel stressed. We feel it’s important for his health and happiness to find him a foster family, or a forever home, as soon as possible as we suspect he will feel calmer and more confident in a home environment. If you can help this sweet guy out, please let us know! If your home might not be the right match for him, please share this blog post with your family, friends, co-workers, and more – let’s spread the word and bring Rennie and the family he deserves together at last!

Tomorrow is #GivingTuesday!

Following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving, and who deserves contributions more than wonderful rescue pets?

Emerald City Pet Rescue, although still a new organization officially launched in 2013, is growing fast! Our motto is “Love Can Save Lives” and we strive to give each animal we rescue and rehome all the love and care they deserve, and more.

For this Giving Tuesday, we want to introduce you to one of the many pups near and dear to our heart that has come upon us, a sweet-as-pie Pitbull named Sweetie Pie!

Sweetie Pie was found as a stray, wandering the streets. She was thin, covered in scars, and we suspected she had been the mother to a litter of puppies in her recent past.

Despite the vague story that Sweetie Pie’s health could tell us, never have we met a dog more loving and kind. Her eyes are filled with hope and wisdom beyond her years, and when she raises her head and looks up at you with her tail softly wagging, you can’t help but reach down and give her a little hug.

At Emerald City Pet Rescue, the health of our rescue pets is our top priority. Sweetie Pie came with challenges that weren’t visible to the naked eye upon being taken in by us, but that didn’t scare us any more than it scared her! Sweetie Pie needed two ACL surgeries to repair her knees, and if that wasn’t difficult enough, she then developed tumors which turned out to be cancerous and had to withstand chemotherapy! What amazed us beyond belief was that no amount of pain or struggle dampened her spirits for a single moment. The moment she’d return from a surgery or a vet visit, even when she was supposed to be on bedrest all she wanted to do was play. We can’t fathom where she found her energy and optimism! Sweetie Pie was a rare, precious gem that brightened each day she was here at the rescue with us.

We are so happy to conclude that after all the hardships that Sweetie Pie endured, she finally found the happy ending she deserved a hundred times over. A wonderful couple adopted her and now she spends her days playing with giant sticks (HER FAVORITE!) and running along the beach with the wind in her face. It fills our hearts with joy knowing that we were able help her along on her long, difficult journey to happiness, and we wouldn’t have been able to help her without amazing, generous support from the surrounding community.

This Giving Tuesday, please consider donating to Emerald City Pet Rescue. Your generous donation will enable us to help more dogs like Sweetie Pie on their own journeys toward the forever happy homes we know are out there waiting to find them.

DONATE HERE to help more pets like Sweetie Pie find their happy endings!

DailyECPR : Zorro and Chloe are Heroes

ZorroYesterday (Thursday, January 15th) one of our amazing ECPR staff members went down to Seattle Animal Shelter to pick up two very special kitties and bring them into our rescue. After hearing their story, our hearts went out to them immediately and we just knew we had to step in and help.

Chloe is a five year old precious little girl, and Zorro is a 12 year old magnificent, refined Prince with diabetes who needs insulin shots daily, but is otherwise in good health. They have been together since Chloe was a small kitten and they are very dedicated to each other, such a wonderful bonded pair!

Chloe and Zorro loved their human very, very much. Unfortunately, she suffered from a long-time illness, but these two amazing little gems were an immense source of comfort for her, staying by her side day and night while she fought her disease up until the moment she passed on.

ChloeThe amount of comfort and dedication that animals show their humans is always inspirational, but to know that these two dedicated themselves so fully to being a dependable source of comfort for their person while she struggled in that way shows what amazing, compassionate spirits these two beautiful souls have. We at ECPR are equally as dedicated to making sure they find a new forever home where they will be loved, cherished and appreciated for their exemplary courage, loyalty and compassion.

If you feel you are able and willing to open your heart and home to these very precious little felines and you have the desire to provide them with as much unconditional love as they show to others, please give us a call at 206 557 4661 so we can set up a meet and greet.
