ECPR’s Wonderful, Adoptable Kitties!

We are just so excited about our merge with Kitty Harbor, and we can’t wait to open Emerald City Kitty Harbor!

While the Kitty Harbor facility is being renovated, we have some WONDERFUL kitties here at our main facility on 1st and Hanford in Sodo waiting to find loving homes!

b1How cute is Blackberry??! Blackberry spent the first 13 years of her life in a warm home, though found her way to our rescue when her owner could no longer look after her. This lively, active girl loves to play with toys when she’s not stretching out near a window and enjoying the sunshine! Blackberry used to live with other cats. yet would prefer to be the only cat in her future forever home. She loves to receive affectionate attention without any other competition. While she starts out shy, it isn’t long before she’ll be leaning into your hand while you stroke her fuzzy cheeks – but you’ll know you’ve sealed the deal with her when she rolls onto her back to offer her belly up for rubs! A girl of few words, Blackberry is extremely sweet and prefers the mellow life in her golden years, so a home with people over 16 years old is on her wish list. In exchange for a quiet, loving, forever home, Blackberry will give you companionship and devotion for years to come…!

h Little Harley is such a charmer! At 6 months old, Harley is barely out of babyhood and is excited to get the search underway for his new forever home. This vet staff favorite gets along well with other cats and dogs, so he would do well with other furry friends in the home. Harley loves to play and loves attention so a person who loves to play hard or has plenty of time to spare is ideal for him. Although he is affectionate, Harley isn’t the cuddliest little guy in the world and is likely to wiggle free so that he can get started on his next adventure! Fans of spunky, friendly little guys who come dressed in their own formal wear (he is a “tuxedo” breed after all) are sure to be big fans of Harley!

Meet Keva and Sativa, two of our new rescue arrivals! Their devoted mama has fallen on hard times and is trying to secure a forever home for her two girls. This bonded pair of 7 year-olds has been through quite a lot of change in the last several months and lean on each other for comfort. What Keva and Sativa want more than anything is safety and stability so they can begin their new lives together. Shy and scared at first meeting, these kitties would prefer a quiet home without any dogs or young children, but welcome adults who can show them the patience they need to come out of their shells. Once they are comfortable with you, these girls love receiving affection, attention, and being brushed while sitting on your lap! Emerald City Pet Rescue is a firm believer in second chances, and we can’t think of a pair more deserving than Keva and Sativa!

mMeet Maddie, one of our new rescue arrivals! This sweet, beautiful little domestic short hair girl is looking forward to finding her forever home in the Seattle area. Maddie is a classic wallflower, just like the pretty girl at school waiting on the sidelines for you to ask her to dance. Once you take a chance on her with a smooth, patient, gentle approach, you will find her apprehension melting away to reveal a sweet, affectionate side. Not one for playing so much as snuggling, Maddie does fine with other respectful cats, but would prefer a home with kids 12 and up because she isn’t such a fan of excitement or adventure. If a quiet, easygoing, and lovable is what you’re looking for all wrapped up in a petite package that loves to purr, look no further than Maddie!

mi Meet Minou! This tiny little 3-month-old girl is looking for her forever home in the Seattle area. Petite and sweet Minou may be small in stature but she is big in heart, with lots of love to share for just the right person (or people)! While a lot of kittens are courageous, risk-taking little daredevils, Minou is very mature for her age and is a bit more cautious with new people and situations. One of Minou’s favorite things to do is to play with other kittens, which is a great way of helping to build Minou’s confidence (and also to help burn that kitten energy). Minou would love most to find a home where she won’t be lonely and by herself too much, so another kitty companion or someone who is home frequently would be ideal for her (or why not both?). If shy, sweet and beautiful are what you’re seeking in a kitten, Miss Minou may be your match!

ALL of our adoptable kitties are fully vetted, spayed / neutered, and microchipped. If you’d like to meet any of these fuzzy felines, give us a call at 206 557 4661!

#WhyNotMePets Features Our Soi Dogs!

soidogs

Earlier this year, Emerald City Pet Rescue ventured all the way to Thailand to pick up five dogs rescued from the streets by Soi Dogs. They have been hanging out in the Seattle area, and all except for one are still searching for their forever homes!

Despite being street dogs, all of these pups are incredibly sweet with people. They are very intelligent, eager to learn, and although they will need experienced and attentive adopters, they will make such wonderful companions!

The last Thailand pup to arrive in Seattle, Bubbles, has already found her forever home but there are still four waiting to meet you!

Lincoln is a sweet, well-socialized fella, who makes the funniest noises when he’s trying o communicate with you. Lincoln is very treat motivated and learns quickly, and is very good at communicating with other dogs, though he can be impatient with them from time to time, so Lincoln would prefer a home with either senior or mellow dogs (or, ideally, he could be the only dog in the home and hold the spotlight all on his own).

Nancy is a very cuddly, sweet, smart dog that gets along with all kinds of humans. She loves her doggy pals, though it can take some time to warm up at first (but, Nancy says “no cats, please and thank you”). Nancy is treat motivated, and is quick to learn with positive reinforcement. She loves to go hiking and romp outdoors, so an active family would be a wonderful fit for her! Nancy is currently with a foster family and has a doggy foster-sibling, and she is doing great acclimating to a home environment!

Thelma is goofy and sweet, and while she gets along well with a lot of dogs, she would thrive in a home with individualized attention where required training with an experienced adopter would help her to grow in her obedience, manners, and trust (particularly with food guarding, her biggest area for improvement). Because she can be vocal and likes to bolt, a house with a fenced yard is the name of the game for Thelma – so no apartments or condos, please. Thelma is the best kind of challenge there is, the one that will reward you with endless kisses!

And now for my personal favorite (the dog that I would adopt in a heartbeat if I had the right kind of environment!) … SNOWFLAKE! Cute, independent Snowflake likes to be cuddled and would love to be a family’s one-and-only until she feels safe and secure. Great on walks and great with handling, Snowflake would likely benefit from crate training to keep her safe from harm when left at home alone. Because of her smarts, Snowflake can be precocious, so she demands a job and / or lots of physical and mental activity to keep her from being destructive (toys and chewy treats would help). Like her Soi Dog mates, Snowflake can be vocal and could escape if given the chance, so a house with a fenced-in yard is a must for her safety (no apartments or condos, please). This little girl is the smartest, most mischievous little pooch I’ve ever met and she will make a wonderful companion for someone that can outsmart her smarts and can keep up with her energy level!

These dogs are in luck – PAWSITIVE ALLIANCE has partnered with Q13Fox to spotlight these wonderful dogs, and they recently had their television debut! Check them out in full action on the news!

ECPR’s Winter Adoption Event

Last Saturday, December 3, 2016, we here at ECPR held our second annual winter adoption event! Special thanks to Mudbay Uptown in Queen Anne for hosting, they have a WONDERFUL adoption center in their store and their staff is so kind and accommodating!

A few ECPR employees, a handful of our amazing volunteers, and a group of dogs ventured into the chilly unknown on this hopeful day. A supportive volunteer supplied us with plenty of coffee to lift our spirits and our energy, and as we readied some kennels for the dogs, we were sure to give them lots of pep talks! “This is an important day for you! Remember to smile, stick your tongue out a lot, and be your best selves! If you meet the perfect family for you, be sure to let them, and us, know!” The positive energy proved to be contagious and soon tails began to wag and little snouts began to smile.

At 11AM, prospective adopters began to venture toward the adoption center wondering if the perfect addition to their family was just a kennel away. The pups kept true to their word and charmed everyone they met with kisses, cuddles, wagging tails and cute little toothy grins. They spent more time in warm human arms than they did in their kennels, and by the end of the day, lots of people were entranced by their amazing sweetness!

As our facility is not a walk-through shelter (our pets spend their days in a playroom rather than in kennels) these off-site adoption events are such a fun and positive way to introduce them to prospective adopters who got to spend that special one-on-one time meeting them up close and seeing if there is a potential bond in their future. We were so thankful for the opportunity to watch our dogs fall in love with so many people, and to watch so many people falling in love with them! We are confident that in no time at all, the pups that attended this adoption event will find their perfect forever homes in no time at all.

Special thanks to Mudbay Uptown for providing both the space, and the help. They are amazing!

Special thanks also to our wonderful ECPR VOLUNTEERS! So many of you came to offer your support and assistance, we couldn’t have done it without you!

Lastly, special thanks to Erin Lynch whose wonderful photography skills really captured the spirits of our pets so well! Her pictures are below, and she is available to do photo sessions with you and your pet for the holidays!

Woody Searches For His Forever Home

adopt-me Meet Woody the Cocker Spaniel, currently available for adoption at Emerald City Pet Rescue!

Woody is an energetic 10-month old puppy who LOVES to snuggle and play!

So far in his life, Woody has had very little exposure to the world around him, so he can be fearful until he gets comfortable in new situations.

Woody can be a bit nervous around new people, but all it takes to win his heart is a good treat. Then, he becomes your BFF!

w1Woody is learning to walk nicely on a leash. He is working on commands. Currently, he knows ‘sit’ and ‘down’.

Woody requires an experienced adopter with plans to provide lots of training and exposure opportunities. Woody will make the extra time worth it; he is a stunning dog with a loving personality. Woody does get along with other dogs as long as they are ready to play! Woody needs a home with no small children, but children over 12 years old would be fine.

Woody does get along with other dogs as long as they are ready to play! Woody needs a home with 12 and older due to his boisterous nature; like most young dogs he doesn’t yet understand his size!

If Woody sounds like the perfect dog for you, give us a call at 206 557 4661!

Cito – November Dog of the Month!

C1.jpgSay hello to Cito, one of our new rescue arrivals! This handsome little Chihuahua boy has 12 years under his belt, and can’t wait to share many more with a forever family of his own.

Cito is incredibly polite and intelligent. He knows the command for “sit” and can’t wait to learn even more through training as he improves his manners.

Cito would prefer a home with children over 7 years old because of his size and gentle nature, especially if the home can match his mellow, easygoing vibe. This boy is all lover and no fighter. He thoroughly enjoys sharing affection, being held, and crawling into your lap for a good, long cuddle! We are unsure of how Cito does with cats at this time, but when it comes to people, Cito is incredibly loving and can’t wait to share his love with you!

c2Cito is missing many of his teeth, so his tongue likes to hang out on the side of his mouth. We think it gives him lots of character! He is quickly becoming a staff favorite, his loving disposition is just too addicting! Although he is twelve, that is only middle-aged for many chihuahuas and he still has so much life and love left in him to give.

Cito is fully vetted, neutered, and microchipped. For more information or to meet Cito, please call Emerald City Pet Rescue 206-557-4661!

Gidget : Very Special Dog Seeks Compassionate, Loving Family!

There are many important factors to consider when you make the decision to adopt a pet and bring them into your family. What kind of lifestyle do you have? Do you have children? Other pets? Do you travel a lot and would you want to take your pet with you if you do? Have you had dogs before, or cats, or critters? How comfortable are you with training? Are you and willing to adopt an animal with separation anxiety, fear-based aggression, food aggression? Are you willing to adopt a very shy pet who takes a while to warm up to new people?

At Emerald City Pet Rescue, we work individually with every potential adopter to try and make sure that the pet they end up adopting is a good fit for their family and lifestyle.

Sometimes, we rescue very special pets whose difficult pasts have left them with emotional scarring. These pets often take longer to place because we have to find the best fit that we can for them so that they can thrive, their new family can thrive, and everyone can remain safe and happy. If a pet is at ECPR for only a few days before they find their forever homes that’s wonderful, but if it takes weeks, months or even years, we will never give up because we know that every single pet has a perfect family out there just waiting for the stars to align so they can meet. Our pets spend their days out in playrooms with staff, trainers and other dogs so that we are able to give them lots of socialization and positive reinforcement on a daily basis.

Some of our long-term residents have unique personalities, but no matter what their challenges are, all of us here see so much potential in their sweet, hopeful eyes. Recently, two girls that we had in our system for quite some time, Fiona and Darla, found their forever homes and to say that the staff here at ECPR was happy for them is a gross understatement. There is nothing quite like the moment when someone looks at a pet and says, “I will love you unconditionally for everything that you are, and I will help you find all of the confidence and happiness that you deserve and more.”

gidget2Here is one of our long-term residents, Gidget. She has been in our system almost since we began (nearly three years) and we know in our hopeful hearts that it’s her turn to find her happy ending! This little brussels griffon mix has big, expressive ears, and the cutest little underbite that I’ve ever seen. Gidget can be wary and fearful of strangers, but she is making great strides at finding her confidence with people. Once she trusts you, she follows you around like a little shadow and wants nothing more than to be in your arms. Gidget is especially fearful of men, and we are working on helping her realize that ALL people have the potential to be her best friend.

Gidget recently went into a foster home with an amazing foster parent who has limitless compassion and patience. She has helped many of our other fearful dogs find their confidence and eventually their forever homes! We already miss Gidget here at our facility, but we know she is in great hands. We know every single day that passes brings Gidget one day closer to finding that forever home she deserves, and we will do anything we can to help her along the way. What Gidget needs most is someone with a compassionate heart who understands that this little girl’s behavior says, “You have to work to earn my trust and affection because I am so amazing that I can’t give it away to just ANYONE!” She wants a forever family just as amazing as she is, and we don’t blame her!

It’s easy to find a pet who will run to your arms within the first moment of meeting them, but to earn an amimal’s trust is one of the most rewarding things I have ever experienced. The love and appreciation they show you is unconditional and pure; it will always put a smile on your face even on days when life is a little bit gray.

Who knows, maybe someone reading this right now has been looking for that perfectly unique little baby to love and cherish. If Gidget’s cute little face, silly tongue, big ears and sweet, expressive eyes are pulling at your heartstrings, please give us a call at 206 557 4661.
